### 9.1 Select subbasins using mouse pointer
|
|
|
|
|
|
**1. Activate the "select" button in the main tool menu.**
|

|

**2. Choose method.**
|
|
|
- "by ppoint": mark the pourpoint of the basin/basins
|
|
|
- "by touch": point and click anywhere on the basin/basins (most useful)
|
|
|
- "by contain": point, click and drag the mouse pointer over an area and all these subbasins within this area will be selected.
|
|
|
- "only coast": when you click and drag over an area only the basin with the category of coast will be selected and highlighted.

**3. Choose single subbasins or connected subbasins**
|
|
|
|
|
|
- A single subbasin without its connected neighbours (if any) can be selected if th upstream/downstream and tributaries in the HYDRO-tab are unchecked (1.).
|
|
|
|
|
|
- A subbasin with its connected subbasins up and down can selected by checking "upstream", "donwstream" and/or "tributaries" (2., 3., 4.).
|
|
|
|
|
|
- With the "autodown" you will select the most downstream basin in the routing system, e.g. this can help you to find the river mouth of a main river basin.

**4. More tools.**
|
|
|
By checking the select tools "add", "new" and/or "remove" you are able to refine your selection the way you want. Especially together with different combination of the already shown tools.

### 9.2 Select by number, select all, switch selection, select by external shapefile or dialog:
|
|
|
- "select": select a basin with a certain SUBID
|
|
|
- "all": select all basins
|
|
|
- "flip": switch the selection, makes the unselected selected and vice verse.
|
|
|
- "clear": clear all selections
|
|
|
- "by dialog": a new window will open where you can precise your selection according to several attributes as size, category or a shapefile.

|
With button **Select by Dialog** you can select your subbasins by many criterias. Check the page **[Terminology](https://git.smhi.se/whist/whist/-/wikis/WHIST-Wiki/Terminology)** for the descriptions of different categories **(1.)**. Here you can also choose if you want to include connected subbasins or not **(2.)**. You can select the ones you see on the screen **(3.)**. At **(4.)** you choose if it is a new selection or if you add or remove from the already selected.

You can select by using a **shapefile**. Click on the button **(5.)** and brows for the file. You can also select by a textfile **(6.)**.
