### 3.1 Download and set up the WHIST file structure
WHIST software needs a special structure of files therefore we provide this together with some example files to help you get started. This structure can then easily be expanded with spatial data for your own area of interest. In the figure beneath you can see the file structure of the WHIST set up.
**Download WHIST file structure**
- download and unzip the **[WHISTexample](https://git.smhi.se/whist/whist/-/tree/main)**. It will have the same content as shown in the figure beneath except for the **[OpenJdk](https://openjdk.java.net/)** which is an open source package of JAVA.
**Download and add OpenJdk**
- download **[OpenJdk](https://jdk.java.net/12/)**. The version used for the current WHIST version is 12.0.2 (found in the **[archived OpenJDK](https://jdk.java.net/archive/)**). Choose the version corresponding to your OS (Windows/64, Linux/64 or MacOS/64). Unzip and add the received folders to the corresponding folder shown at **(2)** in the figure beneath.
### 3.2 New releases
- now and then bugs are corrected and tools improved and new versions released. Check the **[repository](https://git.smhi.se/whist/whist/-/tree/master)** to see if there are any new zipped **whist.jar** files to download. The WHIST_example will always contain the version given from the start (2019) but is easily exchanged in the javalib folder. whist.jar is marked **(1)** in the figure beneath.

### 3.3 Test to run WHIST
- Go to WHISTexample folder and click on the batch file (or run in your terminal) corresponding to your OS (i.e WHIST_Linux, WHIST_MacOSX.command or WHIST_win64). The following interface of WHIST should turn up on your screen:

### 3.4 Get familiar to WHIST
To get familiar to WHIST we recommend you to go through some basic exercises on the example area. They are found here: **[Basic exercises to get familiar with some tools](https://git.smhi.se/whist/whist/-/wikis/WHIST-Wiki/Basic-exercises-using-WHIST-example-set-up:-Get-familiar-with-some-tools)**.
