WIP: index_functions for first occurence

@a002160 : Could you have a look at the code and see if it has prospects to be merged [later] when completed. If so, I will continue to create the corresponding metadata.yaml entries, which will be in a separate file from the main metadata.yaml, at least until later because these indices are non-ET.
